Seeds of inspiration
"I don't leap or jump for the landing. I leap for the experience through the air. Because you cannot predict the landing." - Brené Brown
When I heard this statement while listening to the most recent episode of Elizabeth Gilbert’s “Magic Lessons” podcast, it stopped me in my tracks.
I have been feeling particularly uninspired lately about a lot of things but mostly as it relates to the B&B. I have been beating myself up for not being further along the path toward making this dream a reality and for not having more answers, which in turn would lead to more tangible actions taken.
This one statement made me think of all the leaps I have made in the past 15 months. Some big, some small. Although none of them landed me at my final destination, they served a bigger purpose. Each leap brought me closer to my truth.
Quitting my job made me realize that my next step was to pursue finding my own B&B, not taking an interim job at a hotel “for the experience”
Entering the essay contest to win a country inn in Maine made me realize that I do not want a restaurant as part of our B&B; nor, do I want the owner’s quarters on the third floor (I’m not getting any younger!)
Reaching out to a B&B consultant made me realize that I/we don’t have to do this alone
Entering another essay contest, this time for a B&B in southwestern Virginia, reminded me how much I loved the abundance of natural beauty in the Southeast and that our perfect place may not be on the West Coast
And so on ...
What I have come to realize since listening to that podcast is that it is not important where—or even if—I land. Nor does it matter whether my leaps are big or small. It is enough that I leap at all. That is where the inspiration lives.
